Boroughmuir Thistle put in another strong performance against a side above us in the league at Meadowbank Stadium, as we held 2nd placed Kilmarnock to a stalemate 0-0 draw in our final game of the campaign.
Thistle could feel hard done by with the result, as they created the best chances of the game especially in the opening half, but they can take pride bowing out the season with strong performances in consecutive weeks against the top two sides in the league this season.
Holly Aitchison thought she had broken the deadlock in the 25th minute when her half-volley looked to be dipping into the top corner, before it was turned away by the full reach of Kilmarnock’s goalkeeper Ellie Currie.
Boroughmuir came close again just five minutes later as the ball fell to Kim Goodchild following a stramash from a corner kick, but she was to be dined only by the crossbar.
Half Time: Boroughmuir Thistle 0-0 Kilmarnock
Thistle were resilient and limited the Ayrshire side to only a few half chances in the second half, and were unable to convert chances of their own thanks to a fine display from the in-form goalkeeper in the Killie net.
As the game went on perhaps a sense of nervousness creeped into the away side, who had their own fate in their own hands, and Boroughmuir tried to capitalise on that to their own advantage, but the breakthrough just never seemed to be coming.
Fiona Gibson proved to be a handful as she played high in the opposition’s half, but her best cross of the afternoon just zipped past everyone.
The final whistle marked the end of the season and marked the end of yet another strong performance against a well-established outfit, which the girls can take pride and confidence from as we look to take that leap and battle it out for promotion to the top-flight.
Although we knew our fate was 4th in the table no matter what the score was, the visiting side had it all to play for, as they knew if they won, the valuable playoff spot for 2nd place was theirs. Thanks to results elsewhere, a point was enough to guarantee them runners up, as they will face Dundee United in the play-off.

🗣️ "In the first half we didn't have as much fight as we could've done... But we came into it more in the second half. A shame we couldn't get the goal but the girls did well."
