Thistle Claim a 2-0 Victory Over Falkirk
Boroughmuir Thistle secured a convincing 2-0 victory over Falkirk, with two first-half goals from Amy Denholm and Fiona Gibson putting the game firmly in Thistle’s hands.
First Half
Thistle made a bright start, spending much of the opening 15 minutes in Falkirk’s half and putting the visitors under early pressure. Their positive start paid off just 2 minutes in as Amy Denholm found the back of the net with a rebound from the keeper to give Thistle an early lead.
Thistle continued to build on their momentum, with some combinations across the pitch. Adian Ibrahim showed positive attacking play, linking up well with Holly Aitchison and creating promising passages of play while Phoebe Murray battled hard in midfield to help keep Thistle on the front foot.
The second goal arrived in the 20th minute. Following an excellent deep corner from Aitchison, Fiona Gibson found the net with a header to double Thistles lead.
Thistle continued to create opportunities, with Holly Aitchison going close on two occasions, although both efforts went over the bar. At the other end Beth Rennie was kept quiet for much of the match in part to a well organised defensive display throughout.
Second Half
The second half saw Thistle maintain their intensity, with good combinations between midfield and the Strikers helping them continue to threaten. Adian Ibrahim went down inside the box but no penalty was awarded.
A promising counter-attacking move involving Murray and Aitchison followed in the 53rd minute but the attack was brought to an end by an offside decision against Grieve.
Defensively, Thistle remained solid throughout, with great communication between Lucy Horn and Lauren Hall helping to keep Falkirk at bay. The visitors had to wait until the 72nd minute to win their first corner of the match.
Thistle made changes as Emily Arthur replaced Carys Grieve and Lia Young came on for Phoebe Murray, helping the side see out the closing stages and secure a clean sheet.
It was a strong all-round performance from Boroughmuir Thistle, who combined attacking intent with defensive organisation to secure all three points and record a well deserved 2-0 win over Falkirk and keep the unbeaten league run alive.
