Preview: Rossvale (H) | 01/09/24

We get our Sky Sports Cup campaign underway for season 2024/25 on Sunday afternoon when we welcome Rossvale Women to Meadowbank Stadium!

After two consecutive 2-0 losses, Boroughmuir Thistle have the perfect opportunity to bounce back and get off to a good start in the first of two domestic cup competitions.

With the initial draw having already taken place, both sides know that victory in this one will see them face either Ayr United or Livingston in the second round.

The opposition

Rossvale - whom we are also facing in the league next Sunday - have posted a mixed bag of results in the first three games of this season.

A 4-1 home victory over Kilmarnock on matchday one was followed by an impressive 5-2 away showing at McDiarmid Park against St Johnstone. However, last weekend they were on the receiving end of a 7-1 thrashing by Gartcairn at MTC Park.

Rossvale were promoted to SWPL 2 after winning the SWF Championship last season and will be looking to get off to a good start in one of the two major cup competitions.

Previous meetings

As far as we can tell, Boroughmuir Thistle and Rossvale have never faced each other in a competitive match… so come along on Sunday to witness a moment of sporting history!

Last season’s Sky Sports Cup

Boroughmuir Thistle enjoyed a solid Sky Sports Cup run during season 2023/24, making it to the quarter finals before eventually exiting at the hands of Rangers.

A comfortable 3-0 victory away at Stirling University in the first round was followed by a seven-goal thriller against Queen’s Park at Meggetland, with Thistle emerging 4-3 victors.

The quarter finals were, however, one step too far as eventual cup winners Rangers ran out 7-0 winners at Broadwood Stadium last November.

Boroughmuir will be looking to make a similar impact in this year’s competition, and know that victory over Rossvale will open up a home tie against Ayr United or Livingston in the second round.
