It’s third versus second on Sunday afternoon as Boroughmuir host Kilmarnock in our penultimate home game of the SWPL 2 season.
With the promotion race not quite over yet, both teams know that anything other than a win would make the already-tough task of catching Hamilton at the summit even tougher.
Both Thistle and Killie come into this one in good form - neither side have tasted defeat since early March - so it promises to be another intriguing encounter in the capital.

The permutations
As it stands, Hamilton Accies remain in the driving seat atop SWPL 2 as they occupy the sole promotion spot. Kilmarnock are two points behind in second place, and Boroughmuir are a further three points behind Sunday’s visitors with 51 points.
Boroughmuir win: We’d move level on points with Kilmarnock and remain very much in the title race. Depending on Hamilton’s result, the gap at the top would be either two, three, or five points with two games still to play.
Boroughmuir draw: If Hamilton don’t win against St Johnstone, we’d live to fight another week. A draw at Meadowbank coupled with a Hamilton victory would open up an insurmountable seven-point gap between Thistle and first place with just two games to go.
Boroughmuir loss: Would almost certainly rule us out of the title race with two games to go. Even if Hamilton drop points at home to St Johnstone, a Thistle defeat would leave us no less than six points behind the league leaders and with a vastly inferior goal difference.
The opposition
As mentioned, Kilmarnock currently sit second in SWPL 2 - three points ahead of Boroughmuir - and are gunning for the solitary promotion spot come the end of the season in two weeks’ time.
They’re on a good run of form at the moment, suffering only one defeat in their last eight matches (a 4-1 loss at home to Thistle on 2nd March). Their impressive 2-1 victory over Hamilton last time out is what once again flung the title race open, and proves - despite having not managed to beat us this season - they’re very much up for the fight.
With eight clean sheets and scoring an average of 2.83 goals per match away from home, Kilmarnock will prove tricky opposition for Boroughmuir in both attack and defence on Sunday.
A key player to look out for within Jim Chapman’s squad is Cara Gray. The 17-year-old midfielder has been banging them in all season, with a hugely impressive 17 league goals to her name so far. Elsewhere, captain Abby Robinson always has a good game against Thistle - bossing midfield and seemingly popping up all over the park.
Previous meetings
Kilmarnock, despite sitting second in the league, have not managed to get the better of Thistle in three attempts this season.
A goalless draw at Rugby Park in September was followed by a 1-0 Boroughmuir victory at Meadowbank in mid-November. We then followed that up with a relatively comfortable 4-1 win over Killie on their own patch back at the start of March - a first half Emily Arthur double set us on our way, before Amy Forbes and Louise Mason capped things off.
In terms of the overall historical head-to-head, it’s 11 wins apiece for both sides and there have been four draws amongst our 26 meetings since 2008. Thistle have the better goalscoring record, with 49 goals scored compared to Kilmarnock’s 37.
