Team news
After making her Thistle debut off the bench against Gartcairn two weeks ago, Athina Varnava will be hopeful of making her way into Andy Enwood’s plans from the start this time round.
The Cyprus international player - who had been training with the squad since the summer as she recovered from injury - was announced shortly before kick off last time out as she became Boroughmuir’s first signing of the January transfer window.
Elsewhere, Cailin Michie bagged her seventh league goal of the season against Gartcairn and now sits joint-fourth in the SWPL 2 top scorer charts. The midfielder - who has been a mainstay in Enwood’s Thistle side - will be looking to add to her tally this weekend as she closes in on Hamilton’s Sophie Townsley in third place.
The opposition
Ayr United are on a pretty dismal run of form at the moment, having won just one of their last nine league games and picking up four points from a possible 30.
United currently sit rock bottom of SWPL 2 with seven points after 14 games, but have their sights set on St Johnstone who are just one place and one point ahead. Thistle currently sit four places and 16 points ahead of the visitors.
After notching a 3-1 home victory over Rossvale in mid-December, Ayr came back from the winter break straight into an Ayrshire Derby where they fell to a 3-0 defeat to Kilmarnock last time out.
Previous meetings
Sunday will mark the third meeting between the two sides so far this season, with Boroughmuir emerging victorious on both occasions.
It was opening day delighted as Thistle ran out 7-1 winners at Meadowbank back in August, before Cara Borthwick notched the only goal of a tightly-contested midweek fixture at Somerset Park in November.
