The opposition

Ayr United currently sit bottom of SWPL 2 in 8th position with 4 points from their opening nine games. Thistle are four places and nine points above the home side, and have scored almost twice as many goals so far this season.

United suffered a 4-1 away loss at the hands of St Johnstone last time out, with Jaya Gill bagging her side’s solitary goal. Lauren McBlain will miss out on Wednesday night for the home side after she received a red card against the Saints.

Ayr’s only win of the season did, however, come at home against Gartcairn - who got the better of Thistle last month - so the Meadowbank side will be wary of any potential home advantage on what will be a tough evening.

Previous meetings

Boroughmuir Thistle and Ayr United have met three times since 2019, including once already this season. Thistle have won all encounters rather convincingly, with a 6-1 away victory and 6-0 home win coming when both sides played in the Championship.

Boroughmuir also ran out 7-1 victors at Meadowbank on the opening day of this campaign as goals from Robin Gallagher, Becky Galbraith (2), Cailin Michie (2), Louise Mason, and Amy Forbes secured all three points.
