Boroughmuir Thistle face a tough test against SWPL 1 side Aberdeen on Sunday afternoon as Sky Sports Cup Quarter Final action takes centre stage at Meadowbank Stadium.
The Dons make the trip to Edinburgh for what will be Thistle’s third game in seven days, with both sides vying to reach the first national cup semi final of the season.
Boroughmuir come into this one in resurgent form having picked up crucial 1-0 victories against Rossvale and Ayr United this week, and are looking to go at least one step further than they managed in last season’s Sky Sports Cup.

Team news
After starting the last two games, Amy Forbes will be looking to maintain her position in Boroughmuir’s backline heading into this one. The defender was voted fans’ Player of the Match and named in the SWPL Team of the Week following a standout performance against Rossvale last Sunday as Thistle battled to a 1-0 victory.
Caitlin Lynch has also started the last two games against Rossvale and Ayr United respectively, with the midfielder getting 180 crucial minutes under her belt following her recent return from long-term injury. Lynch will be hoping that Head Coach Andy Enwood sees no reason to change a winning formula despite opposition from the division above posing a different kind of challenge.
The opposition
Aberdeen currently sit in ninth position in SWPL 1, having picked up eight points from their opening 12 games. They have registered just two league wins so far this season, shipping 40 goals and scoring just nine in the process.
The Reds have suffered heavy defeats in their two most recent games (7-1 against Hibernian and 6-0 against Motherwell), but emerged 2-0 victors over Gartcairn - a team to whom Thistle lost out - in the previous round of the cup.
Hannah Stewart scored a double in that match and will be a key player for Boroughmuir to try and nullify, with the number nine also notching three goals and an assist in SWPL 1 so far this season.
Aberdeen have only just begun life under a new manager, though, with men’s team legend Scott Booth taking charge of the Dons following the recent international break.
Booth - a well-known face in the Scottish women’s game following a hugely successful six-year stint in charge of Glasgow City - has vast experience of winning domestic trophies as a manager, so Thistle know a tough test lies ahead.
Previous meetings
Sunday will mark the 11th time that the two sides have met since 2009 and the second time this year, with the teams having faced off in the Scottish Cup in January. The Dons ran out 3-1 winners in that game after cancelling out Thistle’s early opener at Meadowbank.
Boroughmuir have, in fact, not defeated Aberdeen since Halloween in 2010 when they cruised to a 4-0 thumping at Meggetland.
As such, the visitors edge out the head-to-head record with six wins compared to Boroughmuir’s two, and there have also been two draws over the years.
