Boroughmuir Thistle is delighted to announce that Louise Mason has joined the club following a transfer from SWPL 1 side Spartans FC Women!
The experienced midfielder has put pen to paper on a one-year contract ahead of the 2024/25 campaign getting underway on Sunday, joining up with Head Coach Andy Enwood for the second time.
The 31-year-old has international experience, playing for Scotland from U15s to U19s, and holds the record for the most appearances for Spartans Women, having turned out in red and white over 270 times.
Mason began her career playing youth football with Hibernian before signing for Rangers at age 16. She then moved to Spartans in 2010 where she spent most of her career, apart from two short spells away.
In 2013 Mason moved Down Under to play for Australian side Adelaide United before returning to Spartans shortly afterwards. In 2018 she then signed for Andy Enwood’s Heart of Midlothian side where she won SWPL 2 before re-joining the Ainslie Park outfit for a third time in 2019.
On signing for Boroughmuir Thistle, Mason said: “I am delighted to be joining Boroughmuir and looking forward to working with Andy again. When I spoke to Andy after last season it was a no brainer. The club's ambition has inspired me and I am excited to be part of it.
“I’ve been in since the beginning of pre-season and all the girls and staff have been amazing. There is a real togetherness about the group and a huge amount of talent. I hope I can bring some creativity to our attacking play and push the team on from last season, and hopefully my experience in the game will help the younger girls.
“I have won the SWPL 2 title before, as has Andy, so we know it takes real hard work and commitment. The league will be competitive every week but we have some real exciting talent and I am absolutely ready to give the team my all!”
Head Coach Andy Enwood also spoke of his pride in bringing Mason to the club:
“I have worked with Louise before and so when the opportunity to sign her presented itself, there was no need to consider it.
“On the pitch Louise has a level of technical proficiency higher than SWPL 2 which, again, highlights our intentions as a club to sign this type of player and progress. Off the park Louise displays a strong competitive mentality which will rub off on the rest of the group.”
