Boroughmuir notched their third win on the spin as they defeated Livingston 5-0 to reach the fourth round of the Scottish Cup on Sunday afternoon.
Captain Louise Mason opened the scoring in the first half at Almondvale Stadium before Cara Borthwick doubled Thistle’s lead shortly after half time.
Fiona Gibson then bagged a brace either side of Borthwick’s second goal as Boroughmuir emerged victors by five goals to nil West Lothian.
Boroughmuir now join 15 other teams in the fourth round of the Scottish Gas Women’s Scottish Cup, the draw for which takes place at 7pm on Monday evening.
Thistle came into this one fresh from the international break and in high spirits off the back of an impressive comeback victory over Hamilton Accies last time out.
It didn’t take long for the visitors to find their attacking rhythm once again as Becky Galbraith caused the Livingston backline issues down the right on a number of occasions.
And Galbraith was heavily involved in the opener as her cross from the right found Mason in the box who struck home from around six yards on 17 minutes.
Natalie Angelini - who came into the side for her first start of the season - had little to do between the sticks as Boroughmuir controlled the play and limited the hosts to very few chances. A long range Livingston free kick was easily held by the young goalkeeper in what was her only real involvement in the first half.
Boroughmuir continued to create chances, with Cailin Michie shooting narrowly wide from distance and Borthwick coming very close with a header from inside the box.
Into the second half, Thistle had pretty much all of the play in an attacking sense and managed to double their lead on 54 minutes when Borthwick latched onto a long ball, nipped it beyond Livi ‘keeper Rachel Pirie, and slotted into an empty net.
Gibson then added Thistle’s third just over 10 minutes later when the right back rounded off a well-worked attacking move with a strike low into the bottom left corner.
Shortly afterwards, Gibson shot just wide in what would later turn out to be a great chance to bag an unexpected hat-trick.
Borthwick then added her second and Thistle’s fourth on 70 minutes as she flicked a low cross over Pirie from a tight angle and the ball found its way into the back of the net via the crossbar.
There was no let up in the visitors’ attacking play as Michie’s looping header came close just two minutes later.
With six minutes remaining, Gibson notched her second goal to round off Boroughmuir’s scoring. An excellent, full-team move from the backline was capped off when the right back coolly fired a cutback from the left beyond the goalkeeper into the bottom corner.
So an impressive 5-0 victory in the end against a Livingston side who were not up to the usual standards that have caused Thistle problems already this season.
Boroughmuir now find themselves in the hat for the fourth round draw which takes place on Monday evening, with ties being placed on the 2nd of February 2025.
However, immediate attention turns to next Sunday’s final game before the winter break as Thistle travel to Perth to face St Johnstone. Kick-off in that one is 1pm.
