The club can today announce that Emily Arthur has returned to Boroughmuir Thistle on a permanent basis following a fruitful loan spell last season!
The 19-year-old forward spent all of last season on loan from Dundee United, chipping in with a handful of goals and Player of the Match displays throughout the campaign.
Arthur started playing football aged 13 for Monifieth Athletic before they later merged with Carnoustie Panmure.
Then, aged 14 in 2020, she signed for the first ever Girls Academy at Dundee United where she stayed for two years before stepping up to the Tangerines’ first team in the summer of 2022.
The attacker made her United debut against Hibernian aged 17 before enjoying a short loan spell at Championship side Dryburgh during the second half of season 2022/23, and plying her trade with us in SWPL 2 for the entirety of the last campaign.
Arthur is also one of the players to benefit from Boroughmuir’s partnership with the University of Edinburgh, playing in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) League for Edinburgh University WAFC and being selected for the Scotland University Team (SSS) whilst studying to be a PE teacher.
Upon signing her permanent contract with Thistle, Arthur said: “I spent last season on loan here at Boroughmuir and thoroughly enjoyed it. The girls and coaching staff create a brilliant environment to be in.
“I learnt lots as an individual both on and off the pitch, and am delighted to be returning on a permanent basis.
“I feel as though this is the right place for me to continue to develop as a player and I’m excited to build on last season with the team.”
Head Coach Andy Enwood also expressed his excitement at bringing Arthur back onboard:
“Emily feels like a Boroughmuir player already having spent almost the entire season on loan to us last season. We are delighted to now have her onboard permanently.
“Emily's mix of pace and strength, aligned with her bravery, makes her a potent attacking threat which we are really looking forward to helping maximise and refine.”
